Sunday Post: Things I have Learnt From Going To Fitness
It is been pretty much over 2 months , since I started going to fitness classes. It Is weird to think how I used to spend my evenings doing nothing, when now I'm so used to going to the gym. It's funny how quickly you adapt to things is not it?
Anyways, the other day, I having a think about my classes and how much I enjoy them, but how I have actually realised a lot of things since going to them. You know me, I can turn anything into a blog post, and well voila here is today's. So here are some things I have learnt since spending my evenings jumping and hopping around, with about 10 other people at the gym.
1. The First Class Is Always The Worst :
The first class nerves are literally the worst, and I dragged my Mum with me for my first class as I was a bit scared to go on my own. So if like me, you're a bit nervy about embarking on a class on your tod, try and coax someone to go with you, as trust me that will help. Other than that, perhaps ask the gym/place where it's run, for some advice, such as what you need and what time should you aim to be there for. I always try to get to classes 5/10 mins early, being early just means I can stand at the back and it gives me enough time to get a mat, or whatever else I may need.
But once you get that first class out of the way, you will realise that it wasn't actually that bad and before you know it, you'll have the confidence to try out lots of other classes *without needing your Mum to hold your hand*
Just a little note that I don't usually wear a smokey eye/lashes for the gym, this was just the makeup look that I was wearing when we took these photos :)
2. No One Cares What You're Doing :
One of my biggest fitness class fears was that everyone would laugh at me if I couldn't do something, or maybe I'd be really unfit compared to everyone else. However, you soon realise that no one really cares what anyone else is doing. You're so focused on what you're doing yourself, that you barely notice anyone else or if anyone else goes wrong. So don't worry. Trust me when I say that no one cares, they're too busy doing their own thing.
3. It Doesn't Matter What You Wear:
I used to always feel super self conscious at the gym, however from doing numerous different classes, I've soon realised that it isn't a fashion show. The most important thing is that you're comfortable and can move around, I would recommend though getting some good supportive trainers, and ideally leggings that aren't see through. However, honestly no one really cares.
This outfit is one of my faves at the moment, as I feel confident in it, but also comfortable too. I can squat and lunge to my heart's content without the fear of ripping my leggings, and this sports bra/crop top is literally so comfy. Can we also talk about the back detailing? So cool.
I usually go for pretty dark outfits (standard me) and I just wear what I feel comfortable in. I usually like to wear a vest top or lightweight tee as I usually get super hot, and always go for quite good quality leggings as I do always get the pant fear when I'm in my classes.
But just wear what you feel the best/most comfy in, no one bats an eyelid honestly.
4. People Are Pretty Friendly:
I used to think that classes would super clique-y and though I'm sure this is true in some cases, all the classes I have been to, have been absolutely fine. You're always going to have people who know each other, but the majority of the time, no one really knows anyone. However, I've always found that people are pretty friendly and not at all scary. This has made going to classes much easier and you never know you may even make a gym friend (though Henry always says this to me like he's in The Inbetweeners when I've told him I was chatting to someone at the gym.)
5. Fit Comes In All Shapes, Sizes & Ages :
Going to classes has taught me a lot about bodies. I've realised that fit isn't just one size or shape, and some people who you may not think look fit, are incredibly fit and can hold a plank much longer than me. I've realised that everybody is different, and that's been a good thing for me to learn. I've learnt to accept my body a lot more, I've also been incredibly inspired by some people who I've been in classes with. I used to go to a class where there was a lady who was over 70 and she was fitter than me, I was always in awe of her.
I can't believe that I used to find the thought of classes so scary, I love them now, and they are my favourite way work out. I find the gym a little boring, so classes actually keep me focused and I know I'll work out for however long the class is. I honestly cannot recommend classes enough, and I've got a post going live soon which has some different class ideas for you, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
Do you do fitness classes? Do you love them as much as me? Let me know if they've taught you anything :) oh and what are your favourites? I always love trying new ones :)
