How To Sleep Better & Feel Better

How To Sleep Better & Feel Better

I am probably part sloth, I just loooove sleeping! Sometimes (more so in winter, if that makes it any better), I actually get excited about winding down and getting a solid eight hours… oh, it is just bliss! Insert grandma emoji.
I went through a stage in my teens where I just did not sleep, I was an anxious child and I worried aaaall through the night. I used to get stressed out because I could not sleep, which would only make me feel more awake! Ugh.
So I have really had to work at this whole sleeping thing, but now I had say I often get a good 7 or 8 hours a night, and I am always up bright and early raring to go in the mornings too.

I have put together some tips on sleeping well, feeling rested and just generally being a morning person. Even on weekends, I love waking early and embracing the best part of the day!

A Digital Ban
Yup, sorry – I really, truly believe your bedroom should be a TV-free zone! I never watch anything in bed, I think it interrupts my routine and I prefer to get cosy in the living room when I’m watching a film anyway.
I do usually have a scroll through my phone before I sleep, but I have the Night Shift mode activated on my iPhone and I think it makes a difference. I’m getting better at leaving my phone alone though, so that’s something. These days I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow, so there’s not much time for anything else!
I also really, really recommend putting the ‘Do Not Disturb’ setting on overnight, you’ll be surprised at how rested you feel come morning without your phone buzzing through the night.

The Brain Dump
If you’re a bit of a worrier like me, you’ll probably be used to lying awake thinking about all the things you’ve got to do in the mornings, making mental reminders. I work for myself and I still get Sunday night anxiety!
I keep a notebook on the side of my bed for evening braindumps – I seem to remember all the last minute tasks as soon as I shut my eyes, so instead of getting up and getting them done, I write everything down in my notebook. That way I can focus on getting a good kip, but know I’ll tick off the tasks in the morning!

Drift Off To A Podcast
Jordan always, always listens to podcasts at night – he once told me it took him two months to listen to a full Karl Pilkington podcast because he would just fall asleep so quickly.
They relax you so much, and then you get in to the routine of sleeping at a good time so you don’t really need them after a while.
Sometimes if I really can’t get to sleep, I’ll get a sleep hypnosis track up on YouTube and I’m in a delicious slumber almost instantly! They’re the secret to sleeping at any time.

Get Yourself Some Sleep Aids
There’s a few things I have on hand to ensure I get a good nights sleep; I wear an eye mask overnight during the summer months because it doesn’t really get dark here, and I adore the This Works Deep Sleep mists because I find the scent so soothing!
A good pair of comfy PJs, a cold room and The White Company bedding are basically the dream sitch for me!
Make your bed extra soft and cosy and you’ll never hate bedtime ever again.
Find Your Routine
I’m saving the best ’til (almost) last here, because it’s all about your evening routine! There’s the simple things you can do – not eating late, getting organised for the following morning and cutting down on caffeine after around 2pm all really helped me. I used to have such weird, dreamy sleeps that just felt like I wasn’t sleeping at all. Changing my evening tea to decaf soon fixed this!
Winding down in the evenings is also a must; I start taking my makeup off after dinner, then I get in my PJs and get cosy on the sofa with some terrible tv. I’ll light a candle and make sure I feel chill af.
Get yourself a little evening relaxin’ session in place and you’ll be on your merry little way.

Waking Up Feeling Fresh
I’ve pretty much always been a morning person, but I think that’s because I get a good sleep the night before!
When my alarm goes off, I get up straight away – I never ever snooze my alarm, it’s the worst thing you can do. You end up feeling so groggy for the entire day.
I find showering helps to get me feeling my best too, so I like to do this straight away if I’m not feeling great first thing.
A double espresso also helps, mind you.

Sleeping well is where it’s at! I hope you found this super helpful – what are your tips for a better sleep?
