FINDING YOUR PERFECT PERFUME

FINDING YOUR PERFECT PERFUME

As I sit here typing this, I am having a little moment because I have just spritzed a new perfume on myself and it… does not suit me. So that’s a nice little way to start this post on dreamy scents!

Anyway, I am a picky person when it comes to perfumes. I could count on one hand how many I really adore enough to purchase again, but I think that’s what makes perfumes so special. They come alive with your own chemicals and create a scent that’s unique to you.

In the few years, I’ve managed to find a few fragrances that I honestly feel were made for me. The sort of scents that strangers stop you to ask you what perfume you’re wearing, and the scents that you get subtle wafts of throughout the day and feel a bit smug with yourself. Yeah, I smell freakin’ GREAT.
I thought I had share with you a few tips I have picked up when choosing and buying perfumes, so here’s the KLV guide to finding your perfect perfume…

01. Do some research. Through the science of deduction (and also just reading the perfume box) I’ve figured out which notes I adore. I used to think I liked sweet, fruity numbers but actually, I prefer subtle, musky yet floral picks. Think Diptyque L’Ombre Dans L’Eau, or Stella McCartney EDP – both are very distinctive, and that edgy feminine finish just completes them.
I love sites like Fragrantica because you can see recommendations based on what you already wear. Handy if you’re picky like me!

02. Test test test. I’m always that person that goes in, hovers around the fragrance counter and tries the fragrance a few times before I purchase it. I know, I used to hate those people when I worked in retail, but now I totally get it!
Perfume is expensive, and it takes a while to settle on your skin, and for you to really get a feel for it.
If you’re making a big purchase, it’s well worth a few treks in to store to give it a whirl.

03. Consider a luxe purchase. Admittedly, I have a lot of perfumes because of this old job of mine, but I really could own two or three and be quite happy. There’s something to be said for finding more of a unique (possibly luxe) scent that is perfect for you.
For me, this was Byredo Mojave Ghost. I’ve worn this almost everyday since I got it, it was my wedding day fragrance and I doubt I’ll ever give it up. It was made with me in mind!
Admittedly, it’s a pricey pick, but I think it’s worth it because I’ve never ever met anyone else who wears this. I’ve never even smelt it on anyone else when I’ve been out and about. It makes it a little more special, if you ask me.

Your dream fragrance is out there! It took me a good amount of searching and sniffing to find a little collection that I truly adore, but I don’t see myself getting bored of these any time soon.

Any tips for finding your favourite fragrance?
