The eighth story — a script book — debuted Sunday 31st July in the morning around the world. Intended for the stage, the script book was released the day after the play had it is official opening so that fans everywhere could find out what happens to Harry, Ron, and Hermione next!

The script book is much different than the original seven books by J.K. Rowling on many levels (different format, different storytelling techniques, multiple writers, largely self-contained, etc.), but nonetheless, The Cursed Child is officially billed as “the eighth story.” For all intents and purposes, everything that happens in it is canon.
