Why You Need A Face Mist & My Top Picks

Why You Need A Face Mist & My Top Picks

s it just me or do face mists seem to be having a moment? Truth be told for a long time I wasn’t a hundred percent sure on how they could benefit my skin, and preferred to keep them in my kit as a fancy alternative to a water spray on my brushes when I wanted to use an eyeshadow wet. I’m glad to say I know a little more on the subject, and I thought I’d use this post as a way to help clarify what a mist actually does in your skincare routine and when to use it, plus the products I’m happy to recommend.

WHAT DOES A FACE MIST DO?

In addition to offering a refreshing mist throughout the day to cool down, theres a few more viable reasons as to why they’re worth all the fuss. Applying a mist can actually help better absorb your serum and moisturiser there fore making them work that little bit harder, It’s not solely about hydration these days. Face mists now offer a multitude of skin enhancing benefits, whether thats adding glow, hydration, toning or mattifying the skin and setting your makeup.

WHEN SHOULD I USE IT?

To get the benefits of a face mist, especially if hydration or any key ingredients that you want your skin to absorb then you want to apply it after cleansing your skin and before your serum step, while the skin is still damp from the mist. I also think they really add something to makeup throughout the day, especially if the skin looks a little flat or lacking in glow, add your favourite face mist to give a little life back. Dob’t get me wrong, this isn’t a replacement for drinking water, but it’s a nice addition to add into your skin nd makeup routine.

FOR HYDRATION I RECOMMEND

Glossier Soothing Face Mist which is a nice gentle formula, great as a setting spray over makeup, and a has a subtle rose scent. Herbivore Hibiscus Coconut Water is also great for sensitive skins and adding light hydration throughout the day. I also really like a spray for dampening my brush before using pigment more intensity on the eyes, or making the inner corner of the eye pop.

FOR GIVING THE SKIN SOMETHING EXTRA

I have two favourites, first up is Dermalogica Antioxidant Hydramist. This mist helps to firm and hydrate. This helps protect the skins protective barrier by creating an active antioxidant shield to help fight free radical damage, also great on sensitive skin as it doesn’t contain any artificial fragrance or colours. The second is a newer discovery by Bjork & Berries, Deep forest Face Mist. This one is great for helping skin restore its natural ph balance, restoring and calming the skin, as its also alcohol free. I use this one a lot as a makeup setting spray too.

THE GLOW GIVER

In my pro kit I use Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir before moisturiser on pretty much everyone. I find the scent really calming, so a great stress reliever when someone’s a little anxious. This for me adds not only hydration, but a nice oomph of glow pre base. This has to be one of Caudalie’s most loved products and it’s best seller for a reason. Yes a face mist isn’t by any means an essential, but they are so much more than an ’emperor’s new cloak’ kind of makeup product, especially when you find one that caters to your skins needs.
